The key topics of the talks were the development of automobile checkpoints, the development of railway communication, and joint participation in the European Union's Connecting Europe Facility program. The parties paid attention to agreeing on a joint plan for the development of border infrastructure.

“Our first priority is to allow empty trucks to pass through the Luzhanka-Beregsurany checkpoint. It will help relieve the only cargo checkpoint, Chop-Zahony. Ukraine has created all necessary conditions for this, including upgrading the road surface at the checkpoint and carrying out all the necessary ratification procedures. We expect that soon the Hungarian side will also ratify the relevant decision and empty trucks will be able to cross the Luzhanka. The ratification of the amendments to the relevant Agreement will also allow us to open the Velyka Palad-Noghodos checkpoint. Our proposal is to use temporary infrastructure. I am grateful to the Hungarian side for supporting this decision and for their willingness to provide us with technical assistance”, – said Serhii Derkach, Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.

Levante Magyar confirmed that Hungary's priority in cooperation with Ukraine is to develop the border and increase its capacity. He expressed confidence that the amendments would soon be ratified, allowing for the launch of the Luzhanka border crossing and the opening of the Velyka Palad border crossing.

During the talks, the Ukrainian side also handed over the draft Border Infrastructure Development Strategy and operational plan to their Hungarian counterparts to receive feedback and agree on a joint plan.

Parties also discussed the possibility of starting negotiations on the preparation of an agreement on joint customs and border control. Earlier, the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine has already sent a draft to Hungary.

Serhii Derkach and Levente Magyar also agreed that a technical meeting would be held in the near future to agree on a joint plan and priority border development projects, which will be subsequently submitted to the European Commission.
